Description
Summary:Shakespeare's 1604 masterpiece about jealous rage and savage hate. Anthony Hopkins portrays Othello, the noble - and ultimately tragic - Moorish general who "loved not wisely but too well." And it's Othello's love for the virtuous Desdemona (Penelope Wilton) that the Moor's ensign Iago (Bob Hoskins) ovserves with special interest. "O beware my lord of jealousy," says Iago, "it is the green-eyed monster which doth mock the meat it feeds on." But the true monster here is Iago, whose boundless (and, some may feel, vaguely motivated) passion for deceit and malice is fueled by a desire to destroy the man who most trusts him. (BBC PRODUCTION)
