Summary:The Weimar Republic was formed in Germany in 1919 and collapsed in 1933 with Hitler's accession to power. In was a period of unprecedented social and economic upheaval resulting in continuous political confrontation and violence. PART OF THE STRUGGLE explores the development of certain ideas about art and politics during the Weimar period. It looks at artists based in Dresden and Berlin who acted as the focus for the major political art movements, first the Red Group in 1923 then in 1928 the Association of Reavolutionary Artists.
