Richards. He then taught at Yale from 1949-58 and at Smith College as an associate professor. In a notorious scandal, Dorius was betrayed by a colleague and fired from Smith in 1961. After being forced to leave his school and country, he taught for two years at the University of Hamburg, Germany. Acquitted by the Massachusetts Supreme Court of all charges in 1964, he returned to the US, where he taught at San Francisco State University until his retirement. It was not until January 2003 that Smith College acknowledged its mistake in having fired Dorius 43 years before, honoring him in a conference on civil liberties - Homeland Insecurity. This well-publicized forum examined the Smith affair in the context of the McCarthy period"--Page [4] of cover.
