500 |a Biographical/Historical Note: Moses Liddell, born 1785, was a prominent planter of Elmsley Plantation, Woodville, Mississippi. In the mid 1840s he sold Elmsley and relocated nearer to his son, St. John Richardson Liddell of Llanada Plantation, Catahoula Parish, La. St. John, also a prominent planter, served as brigadier general in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. He resumed his plantation work at Llanada at the end of the war, and was fatally shot in a duel by Charles Jones on Feb. 14, 1870 after a longstanding feud.
