Description
Summary:This was a civil action commenced before a Justice of the Peace upon a bond to pay Allison and Daniels [dollars] 125 for the hire of a slave boy called Sam. This related to an agreement of January 1857 stating that on the first day of June next, we promise to pay Allison and Daniels, [dollars] 125, value received, for the hire of a negro boy and to give him the usual clothing, say one winter suit, blanket. Judgment was rendered for the plaintiff as trustee for John R Daniels. The defendant appealed to the Superior Court. The defendant's motion to dismiss for want of the proper parties was upheld and the plaintiff appealed successfully to the Supreme Court.
