Louisiana, Supreme Court, New Orleans : Merry v Chexnaider, March 1830.
Plaintiff sues for his freedom on the grounds that he was born in the Nort Western territories, where since 1787 according to the encactment of Congress slavery or involutary servitude were forbidden. Judgement affirmed for the plaintiff.
